Dux, this was a really good book that I finally decided to not just read, but go through all the exercises to see if they would be good for people at my company. Well....I must say that you did a fine job.
Everything is fine except for one part - having to download a 3rd party web part for charting. I know it's not your fault that MS didn't include chart web parts in WSS. However, were someone to not have access to the Farm's servers or there is strict change management in their business (as in ours) this would be a stumbling block for them.
On that note...do you have supplementary material to your book that gives examples of what you can do if you have MOSS?
- The chart could be replaced with an Excel chart using Excel Services.
- Actually build a KPI list and dashboard web part to put on the main page for quick status updates.
- Use Approval workflows for more document management capabilities.
Just some ideas. I'm not a PM by trade...I just play one when someone needs to lead and everyone wants to follow.
Thanks again for your great book!
Sincerely,
Kevin Hughes
